Thoughts of Teaching

It’s weird hearing people rationalize / justify decisions. It generally takes the form of a series of true statements which are not actually linked to the action in question. What sounds so logical to the person doing the justification sounds completely absurd and foolish to anyone else – but cannot be easily refuted, because the statements are true.

For example:

Action:
I left class early

Rationalizations:
I was done
I got there 15 minutes early
I don’t like the professor

Problems:

Done – This is questionable. In my experience any class that you can finish early in will dismiss you upon finishing – class is thus over. Since above person was leaving early, I’ll assume this was not the case.

Arriving 15 minutes early is irrelevant to the end of class.

Liking the professor doesn’t matter. If you can’t stand him/her don’t go. Sitting through part of the class and leaving does not solve this problem.

Regardless of reason, this is a bad idea – you are missing time and information that you (or more likely, your daddy, mommy, or grannie) paid good money for.

I’m sure I rationalize some poor decisions, but I attempt not to. I’d rather just leave my decisions unexplained than give bullshit excuses.

There are so many people who seem to exist only to waste the resources of the human race.
