Why Snowboarding Shouldn’t be in the Olympics (yet?)

To follow up on my last bitching about snowboarders… the women’s snowboard cross was last night. The chick from the USA was going to win by a long shot… she decided to throw a nifty trick on the second to last jump – then she fell, smacked her head on the ground, got passed, and ended up getting the silver metal. OOPS – you failed to take your sport seriously.

She was interviewed afterward saying that she was just doing the grab to stabilize herself – but my new favorite announcer quoted Bob Dylan: “You don’t need a weatherman to tell which way the wind is blowing.”

The end. Practice, grow up, and come back in four years when you take the olympics seriously.

* Edit 2/24 *

Doug (big fan of snowboarding punkism) claims that the US snowboarder who fell was not showing off. He pulled up the video of her race. The conclusion: yes, she tucked down when going off each jump. On the last jump she grabbed the front of her board, twisted sideways and held her arm out like a superhero. This was just prior to falling and smashing her head into the ground.

Winner of debate – me. Oddly enough, this was based on his evidence.

Oops.

PS. I want to go shoot stuff, but have no weaponry.
