Since everyone’s doing it, and if everyone else is doing it, it’s probably a good idea, I’m going to write about food.
Q. If everyone else is jumping off the bridge would you?
A. If everyone is jumping off the bridge, it probably means a train is coming… so yes.
I ate 2670 Calories today, counting everything, but with some esitmations. That’s a lot… the worst part – dinner was 9 oreo cookies and a glass of milk. 480 Calories in cookies and about 175 Calories in milk. What a not so good idea. But, it was apparently filling since I ate that around 8:30 and am just now getting hungry again, but it’s not worth eating now because it’s nighty night time. The up side to this is that the oreos are gone and won’t be bought again for a good long time.
Now for a fun suggestion, keep track of only Calories – regardless of source. Just don’t eat more than 1200 – 1500 in a day (this makes it sound nice and simple). Standard daily recommended is somewhere between 2k and 2500. 3500 Calories = 1 pound. So a deficit of 500 Calories per day for a summer that is three months long minus weekends is ~ 65 days… 65 * 500 = 32500 / 3500 = 9.3 pounds. On the high end of the scale, a deficit of 1300 / day including weekends is is 33.5 pounds. Leaving the weekends out makes this far more maintainable since otherwise it becomes very boring and tiresome.
Now, for stuff I remember from highschool… I think I can ingest on the order of 3800 calories per day to maintain my current weight… which is rediculous and I don’t entirely believe, but let’s pretend… that means that if I ate nothing but lettuce, beans (the green ones), broccoli and cauliflower in a day I’d loose a pound per day. If I work out like I should, it’d be more than that – plus this keeps your body from playing dead and not burning any energy.

From the above: bicycling, >20 mph, racing, not drafting – 1638 Calories / hour. Now we all know why Aren looks like the long lost cousin of a stick. 😛 PS. maintaining 20mph on a bike is not an easy feat.
My former housemate was a diatetics major, and was nice enough to point out that your brain runs only on simple sugars. If you don’t eat any, your brain doesn’t get any. This means that the above suggestions may not be good ideas. To help with this, eat yogurt… it’s good for you, has some sugar in it, and apparently is good for weight loss.
It is also my understanding that like celery, hard boiled eggs take more energy to digest than you get from them. I haven’t verified this with a doctor, so don’t count on it.
Alcohol in any form stunts your metabolism… so don’t drink… at all. Do heroin instead!!!
My knowledge of food science and dieting has been depleted, do with it as you will – which is likely completely ignoring it.
Aww, Oreos. That’s fun. 🙂
