We woke up stupidly early to go over Cades Cove and seek out wildlife pictures. We didn’t see any ‘special’ wildlife (deer and turkey don’t count here) but the entire place was covered in fog, so it was something a little different to photograph. Picture taken with Sony a6000, SEL… Continue reading
More experimentation with water fall photography. This time at Arch Rock (the structure off to the right) on the Alum Caves Trail in the Smoky Mountains. Picture taken with Canon 60D, EF-S 10-22mm lens @ 10mm, 8 sec, f/16, ISO 100
This is a Cairn Box (I lifted the picture straight from their site since I didn’t take my own). It’s a package of outdoor-centric goodies put together by a company that sends them out as surprise packages / gifts. The base rate is $25/box shipped, ignoring any promotional prices and… Continue reading
Mountains at Sunset – inspired by one of the magnets at the visitor center. Figured I’d try my hand at capturing some of the layers of mountains in the early morning / late evening haze. This was taken after the Alum Caves Trail, so I’m assuming that we drove just… Continue reading
I am pretty sure this is a picture looking up Walker Camp Prong taken right before we returned to the Alum Cave Trailhead. Photographically, I like this one. I had a somewhat specific idea of looking for a scene like this on the trip (thus the care to actually pack… Continue reading
This was one of the final remnants of the ’91 Jeep Cherokee that was traded in for the Subaru in ’09. I was pulled over and informed that it was too decrepit to be legible and that I needed to get it replaced. Turns out, Michigan has a recently enacted… Continue reading
A droopy Tiger Lilly from along the Appalachian Trail. Like the Trilliums, these didn’t seem as full as I would expect – presumably due to being just a bit early. Picture taken with Sony a6000, SEL 18-200mm @ 200mm, 1/200 sec, f/11, ISO 100
I’ve seen these a place or two before, these tiny ice curls that happen at when the temperatures are just right. This exact sighting was long the Appalachian Trail just west of Clingman’s Dome. According to the internet, they’re formed when groundwater near the surface freezes and forces its way… Continue reading
The Trilliums were just starting to come out along the trails. This one was kind of facing upward, which was apparently not the norm at this time of year; most were pointed at the ground. Picture taken with Sony a6000, SEL 18-200mm @ 96mm, 1/20 sec, f/8, ISO 100
