Droopy Tiger Lilly

[singlepic id=1305 w=480 float=left] A droopy Tiger Lilly from along the Appalachian Trail.  Like the Trilliums, these didn’t seem as full as I would expect – presumably due to being just a bit early. Picture taken with Sony a6000, SEL 18-200mm @ 200mm, 1/200 sec, f/11, ISO 100

Ice Curls

[singlepic id=1304 w=480 float=left] I’ve seen these a place or two before, these tiny ice curls that happen at when the temperatures are just right.  This exact sighting was long the Appalachian Trail just west of Clingman’s Dome. According to the internet, they’re formed when groundwater near the surface freezes… Continue reading

Trillium

[singlepic id=1303 w=480 float=left] The Trilliums were just starting to come out along the trails.  This one was kind of facing upward, which was apparently not the norm at this time of year; most were pointed at the ground. Picture taken with Sony a6000, SEL 18-200mm @ 96mm, 1/20 sec,… Continue reading

Sunrise

[singlepic id=1301 w=480 float=left] Woke up early and drove up to Clingman’s Dome to take pictures of the sunrise.  This is my current favorite, it seems to accomplish the goal of showing the layers of mountains with a pretty cool glow from the sun in the fog. Picture taken with… Continue reading

Salamander

[singlepic id=1299 w=480 float=left] To redeem myself for yesterday’s mistake, this was the first  only salamander we saw on the trip.  Saw it hanging out in a little trickle of a stream crossing the Alum Cave Trail to Mount LeConte. Picture taken with Sony a6000, SEL 18-200mm @ 39mm, 1/30… Continue reading

Ramsey Falls

[singlepic id=1294 w=480 float=left] I actually packed my set of neutral density filters just so I could try slowing down the shutter enough to get the softer look to the water.  Unfortunately, that also means little details like leaves on tress might be blurred.  Probably a good time to take… Continue reading

Smoky Mountain Sunset

[singlepic id=1292 w=480 float=left] New picture from the recent weekend in the Smoky Mountains.  Specifically tried to get some sunrise and sunset pictures this time, which was helped by staying closer to the park than the last time we were there.  The downside of trying to practice photography more is… Continue reading
