Sunrise

[singlepic id=1301 w=480 float=left] Woke up early and drove up to Clingman’s Dome to take pictures of the sunrise.  This is my current favorite, it seems to accomplish the goal of showing the layers of mountains with a pretty cool glow from the sun in the fog. Picture taken with… Continue reading

Salamander

[singlepic id=1299 w=480 float=left] To redeem myself for yesterday’s mistake, this was the first  only salamander we saw on the trip.  Saw it hanging out in a little trickle of a stream crossing the Alum Cave Trail to Mount LeConte. Picture taken with Sony a6000, SEL 18-200mm @ 39mm, 1/30… Continue reading

Lizard

Colosseum

[singlepic id=1271 w=480 float=left] This is probably recognizable, being the Roman Colosseum, but from the inside showing the under-floor structure.  At the time I didn’t figure I’d ever be back, but as it turns out I did have a chance to visit again about ten years later.  I’ll eventually look through… Continue reading

Sphere Within Sphere

[singlepic id=1270 w=480 float=left] This is inside the Vatican Museum – it’s the Sphere Within Sphere sculpture.  Apparently there are many versions of this sculpture in various settings. Picture taken with Olympus C2040z, lens @ 7.3mm (41mm equiv), f/3.6, 1/400 sec, ISO 100

Altar of the Fatherland

[singlepic id=1269 w=480 float=left] It took a bit of digging to figure out what this was since I didn’t really know where to start.  If I have my information correct, this is the Altar of the Fatherland in Piazza Venezia. I had no idea what it was when I took… Continue reading

Arch of Constantine

[singlepic id=1268 w=480 float=left] Here’s a different arch, in a different country… This is the Arch of Constantine outside the Colosseum in Rome.  There’s too much fence in the picture for it to be really good, but I felt like it went along with the Arc de Triumphe from a… Continue reading
